GP Rating

On successful completion of this Pre-Sea training, the candidates will be able to join as a RATING in Indian & Foreign shipping companies as a Deck Crew or Engine Crew. The G.P. Rating candidate will be able to work in all seamanship activities on-board at Deck side and other work at Engine side. With further Sea-service, they will be promoted as DECK SERANG, BOSUN, Able-Bodied Seamen / Engine Fitter etc.

They can also be promoted to Officer level with certain service and qualification requirements. After completing this Pre-Sea Training, exams will be conducted by Board of examination for Seafarers (BES) & successful candidates are eligible to obtain Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC). There are wide job opportunities for our Indian Seamen all over the world.


Pass in 10th Std, Min 40% marks in English.

No color blindness, 6/6 vision in each eye. No eye glasses permitted.


After 4 Months (GP Rating Course)

OS - Promoted as AB Seaman, Bosun in Deck Side
(Or) promoted in Engine Side

36 months sea experience & with certain qualification
Eligible to appear for 2nd mate exams

Eligible to get promotion to Second Officer &
with further sea experience & exam
can be promoted to Captain level

Higher National Diploma - Nautical science, Australia (HND)

This Programme is designed to equip students with the competencies required to carry out safely the watch keeping duties of an Officer in charge of a Navigational Watch, both at sea and in port. The Training Programme is provided by Institute of Maritime Education & Training Pvt. Ltd, Australia (hereinafter referred to as IMETA). The Programme and the Certificate of Competency offered to the students will be as per the requirements of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (hereinafter referred to as AMSA).

Minimum Entry Requirement

The minimum educational qualification is “A” level and its equivalent (10+2 years of formal study), within the following streams:
i) Science (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics)
ii) Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology)
iii) Commerce
iv) Candidates with 10 +3 years of formal study, having attained a Diploma will also be eligible to enrol for the course (to be decided on a case-by-case basis by IMETA in consultation with H-TAFE or AMSA).


17 years, or above

Medical and Eye sight Requirements

Medical and Eye sight requirements shall be as per the existing standards of AMSA.

Issue of Certificates

a) At the completion of Stage 1, IMETA & TMA will jointly issue a Certificate in Transport and Distribution (Deck Watchkeeper) to each student who has successfully completed Phase I of the Programme.

b) At the completion of Phase II, IMETA shall issue a Certificate of Completion of DLP to each student who has successfully completed the DLP assignments.

c) At the completion of the Stage 3 of this Programme, including all assessments and mandatory/other courses, the student shall be issued with a Class 3 Certificate of Competency (Deck) by AMSA.

Salary: USD 10,500 to USD 12,000 per month approx.
